Limestone and Travertine formed by geysers is a common sedimentary rock, that come from mountains, some from underground or from river beds. They are the result of millions of years of sediments being buried, compressed and cemented by precipitation from mineral rich waters. The majority of limestone's are composed primarily of calcium carbonate CaCO3 or magnesium carbonate, used as a building stone and in the manufacture of lime, carbon dioxide and cement. It is generally used as tiles, slabs, wall cladding etc.

All travertine's and limestone's are porous and full of holes created by gas bubbles trapped as the stone hardens and due to their undersea formation will often contains small stones, fossils and shells.

The hardness of limestone varies due to the density and porosity of the stone. Many marbles fall into this category. In addition, limestones ant trvertines can be quite soft and can often exhibit scratching or a wear pattern in very high traffic areas. It is important to use Ph neutral cleaners.

Marble is a metamorphic rock that forms first like a limestone but then undergoes a re-crystallization through the influence of heat and pressure. While its appearance changes during the metamorphic process, the chemical make up and sedimentary structures of the marble remain. Like limestones, marbles are porous and susceptible to staining.

In direct sunlight or outdoor installations colorful marbles will fade over time and will also show wear patterns and scratches.

Note that all natural products including marble should be sealed on a regular basis with penetrating sealer that protect stone against water penetration, oils, vegetable and animal fats, grease and many other kind of liquid dirt.
